Rick Bartholomew

Richard L. Bartholomew

Richard L. Bartholomew (“Rick”) is in private practice in Olympia, Washington. He received his juris doctor degree in 1975 from the University of Washington. He and Patricia Morgan have been partners since 1983. Rick’s practice has always emphasized family law. He is a member of the Washington State and Thurston County Bar Associations. As the Legislative Coordinator for the Family Law Executive Committee of the Washington State Bar Association, Rick has testified before legislative committees on family law matters, and he writes The Hotsheet, the Section’s publication regarding family law related legislative issues. Rick is a past chair of the Thurston County Bar Association’s Family Law Section. He has been a pro tem (substitute) judge and court commissioner in family law and juvenile matters in Thurston and Mason Counties. He has been involved in the Family Law Section’s Skills Training (training primarily for new attorneys or attorneys new to family law) and has presented the legislative update at the Section’s annual meeting each year since 1998. He has participated as a presenter in continuing legal education programs in Thurston County. In addition to his private practice, Rick acts as a guardian ad litem, mediator, and arbitrator in Thurston and Mason Counties.

Rick has been married since 1974 and has two adult children. He truly enjoys family law, as children have always been important to him. When his children were in grade school, middle school, and high school, Rick was active in their school and other activities. He was Scoutmaster for his son’s Boy Scout troop for two years and has continued to be active in the troop in other capacities since 1991. He is a former member and chairman of the North Thurston School District’s Gifted Advisory Council and the Citizens’ Curriculum Advisory Committee. He performed other volunteer work for his children’s high school, including taking photographs for the high school yearbook.

Rick was chosen as the Washington State Bar Association Family Law Section Attorney of the Year for the year 2000
